William A. Bowers, Jr. of Baxley has just completed the regimental history for the Forty-Seventh Georgia Infantry. The Regiment was formed with companies from Appling, Bryan, Bulloch (two), Chatham, Effingham, Glynn (Montgomery), Randolph, Screven and Tattnall Counties. The company from Appling County was the Appling Rangers, Company F.
The recently published history contains the Memoirs of the Adjutant of the Regiment, Captain Benjamin Williams, which were published around the turn of the century in several South Carolina newspapers and have been transcribed by Bowers. Also contained are a chronology and an alphabetical roster of the soldiers in the regiment transcribed from the National Archives.
