Jimmy Lee Shipes, 66, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in the Appling HealthCare System. Shipes was born Sept. 4, 1946 in Appling County to the late Elbert and Elvie Thomas Shipes. He was a member of Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Shipes was a retired logger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dennie Kersey, brother, Bill Shipe and grandson, Trace Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Shipes of Baxley; one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Aaron Beckworth of Baxley; three sons and daughters-in-law, Monty Lee and Lacey White of Baxley, Adam and Trisha Lee of Lumber City and Nicky and Crystal Lee of Baxley; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Andy Love, Dianne and Stan Wilson, all of Texas, Lucy and Dale Overstreet and Joyce and Robert Churchville, all of Baxley; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Vinnie Shipes, Wadis and Myrtice Shipes and David and Bertie Shipes, all of Baxley; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services for Jimmy Lee Shipes were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 at Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Allen Carter and Heath Webb officiating. Eulogy was given by D. C. Orvin. Burial followed in church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Danny Orvin, Tim Hipps, Justin Orvin, Allen Stephens, Bo Shipes and Wendell Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Sunday School Class of Sand Hill Church.
Musical selections were rendered by Stephanie Allen, Wendy Hipps and Alan Johnson.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
