Jefferson “Cole” Simmons is the son of Wendy and Jeffrey Simmons. Cole has a younger brother, Connor, who is in the eleventh grade. Cole and his family are members of Spring Branch Baptist Church, where he is an active member of EDGE Youth Ministries. While attending ACHS, Cole has been a member of Beta Club, HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America), Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes all four years. He is currently serving as co-president of FCA. Through his involvement with FCA, Cole has volunteered with Special Olympics and Sermon on the Mound and has spoken at the first annual Fields of Faith. Cole has also assisted with the FCA annual banquet for the past two years.
Cole has been a member of Appling County Pirate Baseball for the past four years. He was a member of the 2012 State Championship team. He played first base and pitched for the Pirates. He was also a member of the cross country team for two years.
In eighth grade, Cole was recognized as the Up-rising Star Student and received the Young Citizenship Award given by the Exchange Club of Appling County.
In his freshman and sophomore years at ACHS, Cole earned the Math I, II, and III awards for the highest average in these classes. He also received the Honors Physical Science and Honors Biology Awards. In 10th grade, he received the Honors World History Award.
As a junior, Cole received the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit and the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. Cole was very excited to have been nominated to represent ACHS in the Washington Youth Tour interview process sponsored by Satilla REA.
As a senior, Cole participated and competed with ACHS Math Team. Cole was selected as a 2012-2013 Exchange Club Student of the Month. Recently at Senior Honors Night, Cole received the J.H. Highsmith High Achievement Cup in recognition of superior academic achievement and extracurricular excellence. He received the Honors Economics Award, the DAR Good Citizen of the Year award, the Principal’s Leadership Award, the AP British Literature Award, and the AP Silver Scholar Award (for successfully completing 3-4 AP classes). He received the FNB South Scholarship, the ACMS Beta Club Scholarship, the Fourth District PTO Scholarship, and the Jonah and Margaret Scholarship
After graduation, Cole will attend the University of Georgia where he plans to major in Biology and later pursue a career in the medical field to become a physician.
