Joseph Benjamin Hiers and Luke Dylan White are Appling Christian Academy’s 2013 Salutatorians. Ben is the son of Joey and Teresa Hiers and has been an ACA student for thirteen years. He has been a member of the ACA Christian Honor Society for three years and senior class president for one year. Ben was a member of the Appling Christian Academy football team for four years, and was a member of the 2009 and the 2011 GCAA state football championship team, and the 2009 and 2010 NACA tournament championship team. He received several awards while playing football including: all-state second team and best offensive/defensive lineman.
Ben has been on the “A” Honor Roll all four years of high school, and received the most improved award in Algebra 1. Recently, he was awarded the Jonah and Margaret Frazier Scholarship from the First Methodist Church in Hazlehurst and the Zell Miller Scholarship. Ben was awarded the Alpha and Omega Award for his student attendance at ACA. He will be graduating with a 3.8 GPA for his four years at ACA. He is a member of Baxley Church of God and the Awaken Student Ministries. After graduating he plans to attend Valdosta State University to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.
Luke Dylan White is the son of Kevin and Kim White. He has been a student of Appling Christian Academy since pre kindergarten with the exception of four years when he lived in North Georgia. During Luke’s years at ACA, he has been a member and officer of the Christian Honor Society. He played football for three years and received the Most Improved Player Award, and was a member of the 2009 and 2011 State and National Championship teams. Luke also played basketball for two years and baseball for one year. He has been on the “A” Honor Roll for all four years of high school. He received many academic awards including outstanding work in Algebra, Highest Academic Average in English, and the Diligent Bible Student Award. Luke is a recipient of the Jonah and Margaret Frazier Scholarship, the Appling Baxley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, the Community Bank of Georgia Scholarship and the Zell Miller Scholarship. He is graduating with a 3.8 GPA for his high school career. Luke is a member of First Assembly of God and a member of the CrossFire Youth Ministries and Youth Praise Band. Luke plans to attend East Georgia College after graduation and pursue a degree in engineering.
