Ed Halligan, 65, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family, April 13, 2013. Halligan was born July 22, 1947 in Jesup. Ed was the son of the late Jack and Nell Halligan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacky Halligan of Edgewater, FL.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife of 42 years, Mary Jillisky Halligan; two sons, EJ Halligan (Denise) and Eric Walker Halligan and one daughter, Hollie Halligan Hardy (Jeremy). Ed was the best Pop Pop to Logan, Alana, Travis, Riley, Hannah, Madisen, Colby, Ethan, Ava and Bentley. Survivors also include one sister, Ellen Halligan Luciano of Baxley
He was a retired sergeant for the South Daytona Police Department, former Florida Highway Patrol trooper, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #81, Past President of Coastal Florida PBA, Past Camp Commander of the Sons of the Confederacy for the James F. Hall Camp, member of the Bahia Shrine Temple, and Zangi Grotto. Ed was also a USMC Veteran and lifetime member of the VFW. He will always be remembered for being a “True Southern Gentleman” who loved his family and friends with his entire big heart. Ed always greeted his ladies with a “hello darlin” and kissed his family goodbye with a "be sweet and I love you."
A mass to celebrate his wonderful life was held at 11:00 a.m. April 20 at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany, 201 Lafayette St., Port Orange, FL.
A memorial reception followed at the VFW Post 3282, 5810 S. Williamson Blvd., Port Orange, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARNI Foundation to help care for all the animals he so dearly loved.
