The Appling County High School and Middle School band programs are proud to announce that Devyn Woodle and Morgan Brantley have recently been selected to the Georgia All State Band. The All State Band takes place on March 3-5 in Savannah. It is made up of the top band musicians from the entire state. It is considered the highest honor for a band student to be selected for this prestigious group.
The students have months of preparation that goes into the tryout process. It consists of two rounds of auditions, one of which on the district level and the next for the state level. They both scored extremely high on the district level in December and went to Houston County in January to audition against the best from the state.
Devyn is a freshman at Appling County High School and the son of Al Woodle and Deanna Johnson. He made first chair on baritone saxophone for the 9/10 all state band. That means that of all the baritone saxophone players in ninth or tenth grade in the entire state he was the best. Devyn becomes just the fourth student from ACHS to make the all state band in the last twenty years. In addition to being selected to the all state band he also was selected first chair for the 9/10 district band and first chair in the 9/10 all region band.
Morgan is an eighth grade student at Appling County Middle School and the daughter of Vic and Sherry Brantley. She made first chair on trumpet for one of the two middle school bands that are selected. That means that she was ranked in the top two of all the middle school age trumpet players in the entire state. Morgan becomes just the third student from ACMS to make the all state band in the last twenty years. In addition to being selected to the all state band she also was selected first chair for the middle school district band and first chair in the middle school all region band.
The directors, parents and students all want to congratulate Devyn and Morgan for this prestigious honor and wish them well at the all state performances in March.
