Swain Funeral Home announces the death of Hulda Summerall Baker on March 30, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 2, 1917 to Aldine and Willie Summerall and was married to Henry Grady Baker, Sr., She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was an active member of her Sunday school class. Mrs. Baker was a charter member of Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter of DAR and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a life long resident of Appling County.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Baker Branch and Eleanor Baker (Reno) Carter, both of Baxley; two sons, Henry Grady (Barbara) Baker, Jr. and William Aldine (Vickie) Baker, both of Baxley; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 1 from Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Tommy Daniels, Keith Alderman and Mike Redwine. Eulogies were given by Eleanor Carter and Mandi Stone. Interment followed in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jody Carter, Glynn Carter, Matt Baker, Brian Baker, Glynn Stone and Jeremy Rentz.
Honorary pallbearers were Doug and Dovie Doyle, Cleora and Claude Bird, Hilda and Bobby Morris, Dr. Orly, Queen Ester Fidelis Sunday-School Class, Appling Healthcare Auxiliary, Colonel Daniel Appling DAR Chapter and United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Musical selections were rendered by Chelsei Norris, Kim Hall and the Rev. Tommy Daniels.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
