Wanda Quillen Dixon, 60, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 in Waycross. She was born Feb. 18, 1953 in Sullivan County, Tenn. Wanda was married to Charles H. Dixon for 41 years. She lived her whole married life in Georgia. Her parents are Elaine Culbertson and the late James E. Quillen. Mrs. Dixon was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from the Appling County Board of Education.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Scott, her father, James Quillen, mother and father-in-law, T. I. and Mary Lou Dixon; nephew, Jerrod Boatright and brother, Jackie Quillen.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Dixon; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kelly Chancey; two granddaughters, Madi and Abby; mother and step-father, Elaine and Kelly Culbertson; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Boatright; a step-brother, Chester Culbertson; sister-in-law, Sue Nell Holley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dartha and John Elbert Tillman, brother-in-law, Robert Dixon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and Wayne Doke and sister-in-law, Ester Dixon also survives.
Wanda expressed before her death that she wanted the following loved ones to know how special they were to her and how much their love and support meant to her. Geneva Lightsey, Kathy Chancey, her extra special friend, Trenton, Tara, Hunter, and Tate Boatright, her loving sister, Nancy Boatright, whose help she could not have done without, and Nancy Carter, for all her care.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. from Piney Grove FW Baptist Church with the Reverends Steve Hughes and Brad Park officiating. Interment was in church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jamie Boatright, Josh Boatright, Carroll Walker, Jeff Doke, Greg Doke and Anthony Tillman.
Honorary pallbearers were Piney Grove Freewill Adult Sunday-School Class, Piney Grove WAC and all family and friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
