Ivylon Kathleen Griffin, 78, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Appling County; a homemaker and a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; Jimmy Lee and Mattie Johnson and two brothers, Earl Johnson and Howard Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alton “Dick” Griffin of Baxley; five daughters, Gail and A.C Taylor of Baxley, Patsy and Raymond Wheeler of Baxley, Donna and Jerry Taylor of Alma, Wanda and Lodis Higgins of Baxley and Janice Leggett of Baxley; 12 grandchildren, Angie Taylor, Brenda Walker, Chuck Taylor, Robert Wheeler, Keith Wheeler, Johnny Taylor, Jason Taylor, Neil Rogers, Jessica Byrne, Jennifer Via, Tyler Taylor and Tina Medders Apostal; 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister, Colline Crowford; a special sister in-law, Ann Johnson Taylor; several nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. at David E. Miles Chapel of Miles-Nobles Funeral Home with the Reverend David Griffin, the Reverend Rick Brown and the Reverend John Griffin officiating.
Interment followed at Friendship Congregational Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers were Bruce Johnson, Chuck Taylor, Robert Wheeler, Keith Wheeler, Johnny Taylor, Jason Taylor and Neil Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends in attendance and the staff of Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation.
