District Attorney Jackie Johnson announces the conviction and sentence of 52 year-old Richard Griffin of Baxley (a former Appling County Sheriff Deputy) for Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree. The charge stems from the July 2011 sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.
On Tuesday, March 26 Superior Court Judge Roger Lane sentenced Griffin to serve ten (10) years with the first seven (7) to be served in prison and the remaining three (3) years on probation. While on probation, Griffin will be required to follow conditions including registering as a Sex Offender, payment of a $2,500.00 fine, and undergo an alcohol/substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank Special Agent Chad Lott of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for his investigation of the case.
