WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) today spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in opposition to both the Republican and Democrat budget proposals to be voted on this week.
In denouncing the plans, Congressman Barrow called on both parties to develop a plan that fully reforms the outdated tax code, balances the budget responsibly, and cuts federal spending from programs the government doesn’t need and can’t afford.
“Folks in the 12th District are tired of Washington’s false choices,” said Congressman Barrow. “This week, our options are to raise taxes or cut Medicare benefits, and neither is necessary. I’m supportive of real solutions to this country’s fiscal problems, and the proposals are nothing but messaging bills. This country needs a balanced budget, that protects Medicare, and reforms our outdated tax code, something you won’t find in any of these budgets.”
