The Appling Christian baseball team’s record improved to 8-0 after a three game weekend series with Robert Toombs Christian and Faith Christian Academy of Griffin. The Eagles won a single game against Robert Toombs on Friday afternoon with four of the first five batters going three for four. Senior Rex Cox was the winning pitcher giving up only one base hit.

Saturday the Eagles were back in double-header action against Faith Christian. Senior Andrew Phillips recorded the win in the first game and Sophomore Daniel Beasley was the winning pitcher in the second game. Both games provided plenty of offense for the Eagle hitters. The stats leaders for the weekend were Daniel Beasley, Andrew Phillips, Rex Cox, and Zach Carter. The combined batting average for these four leaders was .742 for the series. Seniors Andrew Phillips, and Rex Cox were the RBI leaders for the weekend with a combined 19 RBIs.

The pitching and defense have been very strong this season. In game 3 of the season the Eagles were able to turn a triple play on a hard line drive out to second baseman Daniel Beasley. Beasley then relayed the ball to shortstop Andrew Phillips who tagged second base ahead of the retreating base runner for out number two. Phillips then threw over to freshman first baseman Nathan Clough who tagged first to complete the triple play.

The Eagles are now 3-0 in region play and will face Georgia Christian in Valdosta on Tuesday, March 19 and Peoples Baptist on Friday, March 22.
