Ann Capshaw Hester, 85, of Hazlehurst, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Lumber City Nursing Home. Mrs. Hester was born October 23, 1927 in Brewton, Alabama to the late James Monroe Capshaw and the late Alley Elizabeth Halstead Capshaw. She was the widow of William Riley Hester, Jr., a homemaker, and former co-owner of Hester’s Grocery and Market. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Comer and Diane Hester; grandchildren, Matthew Hester and Terri Lynn Hester; brother, Jack Capshaw; and sister, Johnnie Mae Capshaw Veal.
Survivors include daughters, Beverly Bellew of Mt. Vernon and Brenda (Isaac) Moody of Hazlehurst; sons, Terry (Gail) Hester and James Riley (Julie) Hester both of Hazlehurst; sister, Frankie Spires of Macon; brother, James Monroe Capshaw, Jr. of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Veal, the Rev. Kevin Sanders, and the Rev. Billy Gardner officiating. Interment followed in Palms Memorial Gardens.
Active Pallbearers were Wade Moody, James Schul, Jimmy W. Brantley, Jeffery Chavis, Kevin Hand, and Carl Henderson.
Honorary Pallbearers were R. W. and Mildred Kerns, Cecil and Betty Chavis, Gayle Ogilvie, Mary Harrison, Sally Selph, Lois Hyers, Thomas and Jane Oliver, Lumber City Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice.
Musical selections were rendered by Terry Hester, the Rev. Wayne Veal and the Rev. Billy Gardner.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
