The Appling County Pirates are still clinging to the second place spot in region 2AA after a wild turn of events on Tuesday, April 5 the Pirates beat arch rival Jeff Davis on a walk-off single in the seventh. On Friday night the Pirates struggled against the sixth place Tattnall County Warriors and were defeated 7-6 in nine innings to drop their region record to 7-3.
Pirates still in second place after a wild two weeks
On the following Tuesday the Pirates traveled to Pierce County to play the Pierce County Bears. The Pirates would prevail 16-11 in a game that had several lead changes. In fact, the Pirates scored in every inning while holding the Bears scoreless in the sixth and seventh. The game was tied going into the top half of the seventh at eleven all. The Pirates exploded for five big runs in the inning to take the lead for good 16-11.
On Friday, April 15, the Pirates would play host to Long County (1-10; 6-14). The Pirates struggled to get the bats going in this one. They could only muster five hits and three runs in the 5-3 loss. The loss to Long took their region record to 8-4. They are now tied for second place in the region with Brantley County.
The Pirates have yet to play the Herons due to scheduling conflicts with school testing. The Pirates will face Toombs on April 19, McIntosh on April 22, Brantley on April 25 and 29 to close out the regular season.
