Essie Inez Sumner, 89, passed on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Essie was born in Baxley to the late James Woodard and Lula Turner Holland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Marion Sumner; sisters, Wilma Googe, Thelma Dahlgren, Gladys Rentz, Bobbie Meadows and a brother, Foster Holland. She was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church where she attended the Dell Waters Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker and was a loving grandmother.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Richard M. and Vicki Sumner, Ron W. and Judith Sumner, Larry C. and Dotty Sumner and Linda and Mark Pritchard; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Gaskin; brothers, Ed Holland and Johnny Holland and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15 at the funeral home.
The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Rothwell Baptist Church located at 216 Rothwell Street in Pooler. Mrs. Essie lay in state from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial followed at Westside Memorial Gardens.
