This past Thursday the Eagle baseball team clinched the GCAA Region Title with a 12 to one win over Bible Baptist of Hampton, Georgia. The winning pitcher was Don Phillips who allowed no hits, no runs, with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Caleb Ellington came on in relief and allowed only one unearned run while striking out four and issuing no walks. Coach Phillips said “it is nice to win early and have the opportunity now to work towards the playoffs with out that extra pressure.” Rex Cox and Brandon Horton lead the offensive charge with two hits each. Bryce Livingston, Andrew Phillips, Don Phillips, Caleb Ellington, Jamie Dover and Corey Reagin all added their own offense with a hit apiece.
The eagles traveled to St. Simons Island on Saturday to compete in a double header with non region opponent Frederica Academy.
The day ended with a split with Appling Christian taking the first game seven to five and Frederica coming out on top in the second game seven to four.
Rex Cox stood out again as the offensive leader going four for six at the plate with four RBIs. “The pitching was good enough to win both games. We just need to eliminate all errors on defense. Only five of the twelve runs allowed were earned.” stated Coach Phil Phillips.
The Eagles will face two more opponents in region games to finish the regular season.
Their region record is now six and zero, and the overall record is eight and three.
