Abandoned cocaine seized
On February 9 at approximately 10:53 a.m. officers met with a complainant at the Appling HealthCare System in reference to abandoned property. On arrival the complainant told officers that she had found a small red baggie with a white powdery substance in it. Officers conducted a field test on the substance, discovering it to be cocaine. The drug was seized and placed into evidence, pending further investigation. Anyone wishing to claim this package may do so, by coming by the Baxley Police Department, where officers would be happy to assist and serve them.
Other incidents
Jan. 29 at approximately 1:55 p.m., answered a call to an East Allen Street address in reference to an unresponsive person. On arrival officers met with the EMS unit, which was already on the scene, along with a relative. The relative told officers and the EMS that he had stopped to check on his relative and found him lying in bed unresponsive. The coroner was called to the address where he determined that the resident Eugene Hall, 75, had died from natural causes.
Jan. 29 at approx. 5:15 p.m., met with the SRO officer at the Appling County High School in reference to some contraband. On arrival, officers met with the SRO who had a student detained for possession of a homemade drug pipe. Arrested in connection with this incident was Michael Halen Tomberlin, 17, of a Hazlehurst address, on charges of one count possession of a drug related object and possession of a controlled substance.
Jan. 30 at approx. 9:22 a.m., met with a complainant at the New Life Mission Store in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had busted out a window to gain entry into the store, and had removed several pieces of jewelry items, while rummaging through several areas of the store.
Jan. 30 at approx. 5:23 p.m., met with a resident at a MLK Drive address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone person(s) unknown had entered her home, rummaged through it and removed two gold rings, one round diamond up to one carat and one with an oblong diamond, also up to one carat, a gold chain, 20 WII games, a red WII game, a mini laptop computer, a HP desk jet computer, a Sansui 19-inch flat screen HDLCD television and a DSI game console.
Feb. 2 at approx. 5:40 p.m., answered a call to Jack Rabbits in reference to a theft. On arrival the clerk told officers a subject had taken a quart of beer and left without paying for it. After getting a description of the subject and a short search of the area, Scott Eric Prescott, 42, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with one count theft by shoplifting in this incident.
Feb. 4 at approx. 9:05 a.m., met with a city worker at the City’s Water Park in reference to property damage. On arrival the worker showed officers to the men’s bathroom where person(s) unknown had wrote some obscene graffiti on the walls with a black marker.
Feb. 4 at approx. 4:48 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Jason Carter, 34, of Alma, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Feb. 5 at approx. 1:49 p.m., met with a complainant at the Masonic Lodge in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had broken out a window to gain access to the lodge, where they rummaged through it. Reported missing was an undetermined amount of currency.
Feb. 6 at approx. 9:37 p.m., met with a resident at a Jones Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was asleep, some subjects came in and woke her up and stayed for a short while. When they left, so did several of her personal items. After a short investigation into this incident, Erika Green, 29, of Baxley, was charged with one count of burglary in connection with this incident.
Feb. 7 at approx. 10:50 a.m., met with a resident at a Village Mobile Home Park address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers while he was gone, person(s) unknown entered his home and removed a HP desktop computer, a Magnavox DVD player, a stove and refrigerator, some VHS tapes and a box (Magic the gathering cards).
Feb. 8 at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a complainant in the lobby in reference to an earlier assault. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was at Murphy’s Gas Station, a subject came up and physically assaulted her through the window and then left the scene. After a short investigation, Catherine Elizabeth Branson, 18, of Baxley, was charged with one count each of battery and simple assault.
Feb. 9 at approx. 7:53 p.m., answered a call to Joe’s Quick Stop in reference to a theft. On arrival the clerk told officers that a subject who comes by the store frequently had snatched a donation jar that was sitting on the counter and ran out the door with it. A look out was posted to other units and in just a few minutes the subject, A subject was taken into custody without incident.
Feb. 10 at approx. 2:09 p.m., met with a resident at a Blackshear Highway address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone to church person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed several items. Reported missing was an undetermined amount of currency, a necklace with a large gold cross, and a 1999 gold pirate class ring with a blue sapphire, and with the initials CGC on the inside of the band.
Feb. 12 at approx. 9:50 a.m., answered a call to Dwain’s IGA in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the clerk whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Ervin Jones, 55, of Baxley, one count theft by shoplifting.
Feb. 13 at approx. 3:27 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained, that had returned some items for refund that he had not bought. Arrested in connection with this incident was Sean Michael Higginbotham, 24, of Baxley, on charges of two counts of theft by deception.
Feb. 13 at approx. 5:30 p.m., the Montgomery Sheriff’s Office contacted the Appling County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a missing person. Deputies from the Montgomery Sheriff’s Office contacted the Baxley Police Department and the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, for assistance in locating a missing person from their county. Reported missing was a b/m Tony Orlando Burch, he is described as being five foot, eight inches tall, approx. 150 lbs., and has brown eyes, and he is 41 years old. His last known address was in Uvalda. Burch was seen by a relative on Jan. 13, 2013. Anyone who has seen Burch, or might know his whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
