It has been an extended period of time since the Altamaha River has surpassed the flood stage. A flood warning has been issued for the Altamaha River at Baxley until further notification. As of Monday the river stage was at 78.8 feet.
Flood stage for the Altamaha at Baxley is at 74.5 feet. At 78.0 feet water begins to affect homes in the Carter Bite and Davis Landing areas along the river. As shown above, the boat ramp and picnic area at Deens Landing is under water. Last week’s heavy rains also contributed to a number of county road closures and Appling County Schools were closed for one day due to road conditions.
