Satilla Rural EMC makes large Appling County Ad Valorem Tax Payment
Last week officials of Satilla Rural Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) in Alma delivered a representation of an ad valorem tax payment totaling $3,580,498.82 to the Appling County Tax Commissioner’s office.
The check represents 2012 ad valorem taxes paid by Oglethorpe Power Corporation for its share of the Edwin I Hatch nuclear generating plant near Baxley.
Oglethorpe Power owns 30 percent of the plant on behalf of its member electric cooperatives.
Oglethorpe Power is a power supply cooperative owned by Satilla Rural and 38 other electric cooperatives around Georgia.
Oglethorpe Power expects to pay more than $28 million in 2012 ad valorem taxes for power-generating facilities that it owns through the state.
