Miss Layla Masika McCall and Mr. Dennis Eugene Stafford were united in marriage on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at three o'clock in the afternoon at Thankful New Jersey Missionary Baptist Church in Baxley. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor David M. McCall, the bride's uncle. Music for the ceremony was provided by Tracey Hartwell and Coretha McCall, cousins of the bride with musical accompaniment by Valerie Fuqua. The bride's mother hosted a buffet dinner reception at the Appling County Elementary Complex catered by Sarah's in the City. On the eve of the wedding, the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Sarah's In the City in Baxley.
The bride is the daughter of Annette McCall of Baxley; and the granddaughter of Mrs. Ardella and the late David McCall. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.K. and Lula Mae Stafford of Harrisburg, NC. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Jesse Bost of Midland, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Felix and Adelaide Stafford of Harrisburg, NC.
Given in marriage by her mother and escorted by her Godfather, Mr. John L Houston, the bride wore a strapless Mori Lee fit and flare gown. The gown featured beads and organza and was complemented by a one-tier blusher veil. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of calla lilies and roses.
Shakaye B. Peters of Detroit, MI and Dealtra Tillman of Indianapolis, IN (college roommates), served as Maids of Honor; and Trudy Moore-Harrison of Charlotte, NC served as the Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids included DeKira Hartwell Jackson, cousin of the bride, of Columbia, SC, Melita McCall Studstill, cousin of the bride, of Savannah, Tiffany Lewis, cousin/classmate of the bride, of Baxley, Melinda Skipper Roberson, classmate of the bride, of Covington, April J. Pugh, classmate of the bride, of Lawrenceville, Lillie L. Green, line sister of the bride, of Atlanta, and Leesa Agent-Postell, sister of the bride, of Jacksonville, FL. The flower girls were Amaya and Amani Roberson of Covington. The Maid of Honor and bridesmaids wore floor-length, satin crimson gowns. Each carried a hand-tied single white calla lily.
Michael and Curtis Stafford, brothers of the groom, of Harrisburg, NC and Johnny Blakney, best friend of the groom, of Charlotte, NC served as the Best Men. Groomsmen included Jerry Weathers, Dewayne Govan, Israel Govan, Joe Govan, cousins of the groom, and Fred Moore, friend of the groom, all of Harrisburg, NC and Carlos Scott and Kevin Benz, friends of the groom, of Charlotte, NC. The ring bearer was Master Jonathan C. Pugh, the Godson of the bride.
The bride is a graduate of Appling County Comprehensive High School in Baxley. She graduated in 2000 of Florida A and M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy and a 2003 graduate of the The University of Georgia with a Master of Education degree in Exercise Science. Currently she is completing her last class for her doctorate of physical therapy degree from The University of St. Augustine while working as a Physical Therapist for The University of North Carolina at Charlotte for Stewart Physical Therapy. The groom is a graduate of Cabarrus County High School in Harrisburg, NC. He graduated Central Piedmont Community College and now works at Americhem in Concord, NC.
Following a honeymoon on a cruise to the eastern Caribbean, Dennis and Layla reside in Charlotte, NC.
