Charlie Russell Simmons
Charlie Russell Simmons, 80, of Hazlehurst, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his residence. Simmons was born November 9, 1932 in Jeff Davis County to the late Henry L. Simmons and the late Irestena Arrington Simmons. He was a master craftsman and boat builder and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Simmons and Russell Lee Simmons.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Hand Simmons and children, Sandra Faye Kirk, Billy Ray Simmons, Gary Lee Simmons, Cathy Parlor, Mike Hand, and Jerry Hand; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Dr. Ben Glosson and Gary Lee Simmons officiating. Interment followed in Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Gary Simmons, Mike Hand, Jerry Hand, Josh Parlor, Mathew Daniels and Larry Brantley.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
