The ushering in of a new year was a busy time for the Appling County Food Bank. The food bank is open four hours a day: 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for the public. In the first five days, which is approximately 20 hours the food bank processed and served 145 households with over 10,000 pounds of food. This was possible by donations to the food bank and a great group of volunteers.
Since the warehouse of Second Harvest was closed for the holidays, it made it a rush to stock food and fill orders. Food had to be picked up on three occasions and one delivery of 5,700 pounds was made the first week of January.
For the past year the Appling County Food Bank served 2,548 applicants with 222,823 pounds of food.
The food bank is thankful for its supporters and the churches, organizations, United Way and individuals that sponsor the food bank. A special thanks to the dedicated and hard working volunteers.
