Eddie F. Solomon, Sr. died Friday, April 1, 2011 at Appling Healthcare System. Mr. Solomon was born March 3, 1942 in Baxley. He was the son of the late William and Ora Rayner Solomon. In his early childhood his mother who was a missionary raised him in holiness. Eddie attended Appling County Public School in Baxley. He was employed with Natural Gas and also drove the Appling County School bus for a long time. Mr. Solomon was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ellen Solomon (Red) and six siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Solomon; 10 daughters, Patrice Smith, Lutwinda (Patrick) Moore, Nina (Joseph) Coglin, Victoria Solomon, Stephanie (Dr. Joseph) Handsome, Tamika Solomon, Paula McCrae, Tabitha Sailem, Yvone (Johnny) Cummings and Linda Baker; three sons, Eddie (Linda) Solomon, Jr., Randy (Patrice) Solomon and James (Tonya) King; one sister, Mary (Ronald) Wiggins; three brothers, William (Lucy) Solomon, Sr., Naymond (Elaine) Solomon, James (Emma) Solomon; in-laws, Doris Solomon, Hanna Mae Solomon, Marie Solomon and Mary Solomon; 43 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and love ones also survive.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at First African Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Futch presiding and eulogy was given by Pastor W. H. Solomon, Sr. Interment followed in Old Field Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Gary Solomon, Van Austin, Nate Brooks, Greg Byrd, Unray Solomon and Leron Solomon.
Honorary pallbearers were Marie Solomon, Hanna Mae Solomon, Naymond Solomon, James Solomon, Mary Wiggins, Elaine Solomon, Lucy Solomon, Floorita King, Curtis Howard, Emma Solomon, Mary Howard, Appling Healthcare System, Appling Nursing Home, Pete Rayner, Jack Rayner, Harrett Rayner, Bubba Copeland and Doris Solomon.
Musical selections were rendered by the Rev. H. M. Moss, Carla James, Naymond Solomon, Leron Solomon and First African Baptist Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
