The wife of famed Georgia Football Coach Vince Dooley, Barbara Dooley, will be the special guest speaker at this year’s Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting. The event is slated for Tuesday, February 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Baxley Church of God Social Hall. The event will also feature awards for the Citizen of the Year, STAR Student and Teacher, Induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame and other awards. Barabara Dooley was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended John Carroll High School and went on to Auburn University where she earned a Bachelors degree in Speech Therapy and Special Education and a Masters Degree in guidance and counseling. But, some say what she really mastered in was husband picking, and boy did she pick! She chose Vince Dooley, legendary football coach of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and current Director of Athletics.
Barbara has been making people laugh for years with her Southern tales of football, family and foolishness. She has documented these stories in her book Put Me In Coach for everyone to read.
Barbara is involved in many projects, including a live morning radio talk show in the Athens area that was voted the talk show of the year in 1997 and 1999. A weekly cable television show and sells real estate for Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty in Athens.
She keeps busy performing many community duties and family duties with her four children and her eleven grandchildren.
