Estelle C. Baxley, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at the Pavilion. Mrs. Baxley was born Jan. 19, 1928 in Appling County to the late Linton Stephen Carter and the late Martha Virginia Carter. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Estelle was co-owner with her husband of Baxley Shopping Center for 25 years.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Baxley of Baxley; five daughters and sons-in-law, Letitia and Mike Smith, Linda Linam, both of Baxley, Freda Baxley of Hazlehurst, Tona and Ken Owens of Douglas and Joy and Donnie Roland of Hazlehurst; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Missy Baxley and Terry and Tammy Baxley, all of Baxley; three sisters, Lorene Cason of Vidalia, Evelyn Mayers of Brunswick and Frankie Apperson of Macon; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 from Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Conger officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Michael Shayne Smith, Brett Linam, Preston Baxley, Ryan Brewer, Trent Thrift and Adam Kauger.
Honorary pallbearers were nurses and staff of the Appling HealthCare Pavilion, members of Faith Baptist Church and nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice.
Musical selections were rendered by Phil and Yvonne Keeter.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
