Wannell M. Herrington, 81, of Baxley passed away Monday, January 7, at Community Hospice after a short illness. She was a native of Coffee County but had lived in Bacon County for many years and Appling County for 65 years. Wannell was daughter of the late Marvin Meeks, Sr. and Rena Rigdon Meeks and preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack Dennis (J.D.) Herrington; three sons, Dennis, Dale and Gary Herrington; two grandchildren, Chris Atkinson and Tony Herrington; four brothers, Marvin Meeks, Jr., James Quinton Meeks, Joffard Meeks and Jerry Dennis Meeks and a sister, Gennell Wildes.
She was a member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church in Appling County.
Survivors include one son, Steve Herrington; two daughters, Janet Herrington and Edith Brown of Baxley; one brother, Cotton Meeks of Hinesville; one sister, Carolyn Ivey (Johnny) of Alma; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 10, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeremy Overstreet officiating. Interment followed in Miles Chapel Cemetery in Appling County. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m.
Active pallbearers were Donnie, Kim and Alex Herrington, George Fowler, Ricky Cleveland and Rex Hughes. All others in attendance were considered honorary escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home of Alma was in charge of arrangements.
