The Appling County Branch of the NAACP has selected Mrs. Drissie Mae Howard Williams as the grand marshal for the 2013 parade.
Mrs. Williams was born to the proud parents of the late Stonewall Jackson Howard and Camilla Floyd Howard on Nov. 6, 1921. She was married to the late David “Bubba” Williams, Jr., who departed this life in 1985. This union was blessed with eight beautiful children: the late Nathan Williams who departed in 1976, Johnola Robinson and Earline Collins of Daytona Beach, FL, Christine (Bart) Robinson of Baxley, Donald (Avis) of Baxley and Kinston, N.C., Margaret Williams of Locust Grove, Dwight (Melissa) Williams of Dothan, AL and Sharon (Wilfred) Pace of Orangeburg, S.C.
She has 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams has one sister, Addie Hunter who resides in Baxley.
Mrs. Williams will be honored with a program and reception on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Saint John Church of God in Christ on Phillips Street in Baxley. The speaker for this occasion will be Superintendent James C. Futch.
