Arrests told by Baxley Police
The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
November 3, at approximately 12:55, met with a resident at a Pendleton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while he was gone a person(s) unknown entered his home and removed some guns and an undetermined amount of currency. The missing guns were: a Remington magnum .22- caliber rifle with a brown stock, a single shot .22-caliber rifle with a brown stock, and a camo in color 16 shot Remington .22-caliber rifle, with a chrome barrel.
Nov. 7 at approx. 1:05 a.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Crystal June Collins, 29, of Baxley, on one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 8 at approx. 3:05 a.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told them a black male subject wearing a green pullover shirt and green hat had entered the garden center and rode off on a gold bike without paying for it. Officers searched the area for the subject and the bike, but were unable to locate either.
Nov. 9 at approx. 9:00 a.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told them that a black male subject had taken two computer monitors from the store without paying for them and placed them in a car and left. After reviewing surveillance tapes officers were able to learn the identity of the subject. Warrants have been secured for the arrest of Fredrick Lamont Jones, 25, of Baxley, for one count theft by taking. Jones has been entered on the GCIC computer network.
Nov. 10 at approx. 2:00 p.m., met with a complainant at City Circle Mini-Storage in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers persons unknown had cut the locks off his storage unit and removed a Delta pressure washer model DT2400CS, 2400 PSI with a 5.5 horsepower Honda engine.
Nov. 12 at approx. 6:57 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who told them that the subject identified as Fredrick Lamont Jones had been in the store and had taken some items and run off without paying for them. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Jones in connection with this incident.
Nov. 13 at approx. 12:50, met with a resident at an Edgerton Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed two chrome hubcaps from her 2011 Ford Fusion, silver in color, while it was under the carport.
Nov. 13 at approx. 3:13 p.m., met with complainant at the police department in reference to a theft. The complainant told officers that he had let a subject borrow his truck, a 1997 Chevy S-10 and the subject did not bring it back. The subject told the complainant that he had left the truck on the side on the highway due to it breaking down. After an investigation into the incident both the subject and the vehicle were located in Alabama. Warrants were secured for the arrest of Brice Gill, 37, of Baxley, on one count theft by taking motor vehicle. The truck was impounded by the Lawrence County Sheriffs Office and later released to its owner. Gill has been returned to Appling County on the warrant where he is currently in custody pending further judicial proceedings.
Nov. 13 Fredrick Lamont Jones was arrested on the outstanding warrants in connection with the Nov. 9 and 12 thefts.
Nov. 14 at approx. 1:05 p.m., met with a resident at a N. Hatch Parkway address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into his home, while he was away, and rummaged through several rooms, and damaged several items in the process, along with making a mess throughout the home.
Nov. 15 at approx. 9:44 a.m., met with a complainant at a SE Park Avenue address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had taken his cell phone. The complainant also told officers that he had called the number and told the subject to bring it back. After a brief investigation a Willie Gene Bryant, 34, of Baxley, was charged with one count theft by taking in connection with this incident.
Nov. 15 at approx. 7:30 p.m., met with a resident at a Beach Road address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while he was gone person(s) unknown entered his home and removed a 1989 J Arms and Stephens single barrel 12-guage shotgun, and two safes with assorted items in them.
Nov. 20 at 1:22 p.m., answered a call to a local drug store in reference to a forged prescription. On arrival the clerk told officers that a male subject had dropped off a forged prescription to be filled and was outside waiting on it. Officers approached the subject and a after a brief investigation, the subject, Matthew Walls, 24, of Baxley, was placed under arrest for one count each of forgery in the first degree, fraudulently obtaining controlled substances and possession of a controlled substance.
Nov. 26 at approx. 12:02, met with a complainant at Captain Joes Seafood in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into the business sometime during the night and rummaged through several desk drawers in the office, along with removing the computer that ran the surveillance system.
Nov. 26 at approx. 1:51 p.m., answered a call to Fred’s in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk, who related to them about a theft that already occurred and the subject had left the store. After a brief investigation Jakendra James, 20, of Baxley, was charged with one count theft by shoplifting in connection with this incident.
Nov. 27 at approx. 7:45 p.m., met with a complainant at the Wal-Mart parking lot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that an acquaintance of hers had removed the battery from her vehicle. After a brief investigation the battery was recovered and returned along with Joshua Leking Bell, 19, and Jeremy Davonn Ogden, 20, both of Baxley, being charged with one count each of entering auto to commit theft.
Nov. 28 at approx. 6:00 p.m., met with a resident at an Elizabeth Circle address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone person(s) unknown had entered a storage building and removed a 32-inch Phillips flat screen television.
Nov. 30 at approx. 10:29, met with complainant at a Mauldin Street address in reference to a domestic argument. On arrival the complainant told officers that her ex had come over to the home and they had gotten into an argument and afterwards he left, only to return and attempt to bust in the door to her home and in the process snatched the phone away from her while she was calling 911 for assistance. Joshua Lee Medders, 24, of Baxley, was charged with one count interfering with calls for emergency assistance in connection with this incident.
