Orvil “Tennie” Barnes, 70, died Friday, March 25, 2011 in Appling HealthCare System. Mr. Barnes was a native and life long resident of Appling County, he was born Nov. 24, 1940 to the late William Jake Barnes and Effie Mae Murphy Barnes. Tennie attended Baxley Church of God. He was retired from Iron Worker Local 709.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Randall Carter of Baxley; two sons and daughter-in-law, Tony Barnes and Jerry and Marie Barnes, all of Baxley; one sister, Shirley Crosby of Baxley; one brother, Wilbur Barnes of Baxley; one aunt, Oletha Teston; close and dear friend, Betty Griffin; eight grandchildren: Brandi Hallman, Kevin Barnes, Michael Barnes, Selina Barnes, Wayne Barnes, Christi Barnes, Travis Barnes, Trey Barnes and four great-grandchildren: Tiffany Hallman, Jamie Hallman, Daniel Hallman and Eathin Hallman.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28 from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Bryan Gill and James Medders officiating. Interment followed in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Danny Beecher, Ricky Barnes, Robbie Barnes, John Wheeler, Keven Carter, Toby Hallman, Ronald Davis and Earl Beecher.
Honorary pallbearers were Dennie Simmons, Kendall Kirksey, Wayne Carter, Rodney Carter and all members of Local 709.
Musical selections were rendered by the Rev. Bryan Gill, Glynda Reeves and Lorene Purcell.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
