Three! That is the number of fingers the Eagle Seniors and Coach Wiggins are holding up (above right), representing the three state championships and the three national championships these seniors have accomplished in their football careers at Appling Christian Academy.
After an impressive 9-0 season and a huge State Championship win, the Eagles traveled to Panama City Beach, FL, to participate in the National High School Football Tournament. The tournament consisted of 8-man and 11-man private Christian school and home-school groups from all over the United States. On Wednesday the Eagles sealed a chance to play for the championship as they won, 44-0, against the Arch Angels out of Lafayette, Louisiana.
On Thursday the boys got to enjoy a trip to Pier Park Mall and Wonder Works for some relaxation. On Thursday night Coach Keith reminded the players it was back to business as they watched game film to prepare for Friday’s match up. Friday morning the team rose early and went to practice then pre-game meal, rest, suit-up then traveled to the field.
Coach Keith stated, “He wanted to simulate game day routine so they would be in the right mind set.”
The Appling Christian Eagles defeated the Coastal Hurricanes 72-12 leaving no doubt that they were this year’s champions. Five Eagle players were named to the All-Star Tournament team: Andrew Phillips, no. 1, Dallas Johnson, no. 54, Zach Carter, no. 72, Daniel Beasley, no. 29, and Cameron Carter, no. 24.
The Eagles would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, family and friends that have traveled and supported them throughout this exciting 2012 football season.
