The Appling County Board of Education met for the November regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 13. During the meeting a number of personnel recommendations were approved by board members.
Number of personnel decisions made at meeting
The board approved to hire Bill Crapps as a bus driver, Paris Brannen as a paraprofessional at Appling County Elementary School (ACES), Julie Roberson as an administrative assistant at the Central Office and Gerry Moore as a paraprofessional at Appling County Middle School.
Medical leave requests were approved for Sara McClung, Gwynette Oliff, Anita Yawn and Lacey Hartley.
The board accepted retirement requests from Jane Aycock, a teacher at Appling County Primary School, Gail Carter, a teacher at Appling County High School (ACHS), Harriett McCoy, a teacher at ACHS, Dr. Lynn Overstreet, assistant principal at ACHS, Lorie Spears, a teacher at ACES, Jonnilee Carter, a teacher at ACES, Sandra Simpson, a teacher at ACES, and Elaine Edwards, a teacher at ACES.
Other business
Board members tabled making decision on opening positions for the purpose of hiring.
An out of state field trip request for fifth grade students at Altamaha Elementary School was approved. The trip will be to Washington, D.C. in March of 2013.
Board members also approved fundraiser request for Altamaha Elementary and ACHS.
Information was presented to board members regarding the System’s Strategic Planning, Afterschool Care Program and the 2013-2014 School Calendar.
