Raymond Watson, 84, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Watson was born Sept. 13, 1926 in Appling County where he had resided until moving to Jacksonville, FL. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had served in WWII and was employed as a truck driver with Ryder Trucking for 41 years before retiring. Raymond was a member of Northside Church of God in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Watson was the son of the late Henry Jess and Alma Hyers Watson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Lee Youngblood and a grandson, David Rook.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Edith Lamb Watson; two daughters, Brenda (Lewis) Spires of Folkston and Sherry Jones-Heath (Terry) of Jacksonville, FL; four sons, Clayton (Brenda) Watson of Dothan, AL, Richard Watson of Callahan, FL, Larry (Annette) Watson of Jacksonville, FL and Johnny (Carolyn) of Jacksonville, FL; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Revs. Jonathon Cox, Wade Mask and Phillip O’Steen officiating. Interment followed in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James Lightsey, Justin Watson, Jeff Watson, David Gilley, Ricky Jones, Ryan Jones, Henry Youngblood and Johnny Collins.
Musical selections were rendered by Andrea Augustine and CD selections.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
