Note the difference
There have been numerous occasions over the years guest writers have written controversial opinions to this newspaper for publication, and in many instances, these opinions have caused what I like to refer to as a “Shoot The Messenger”-type mentality with The News-Banner playing the role as messenger. Case in point. There was a paid opinion/advertisement in last week’s edition that has caused angst among some in our community.
Let me make this as clear as I possibly can. The author of any guest opinion is responsible for that opinion. Please do not assume that this newspaper agrees with or endorses every guest opinion just because it graces our pages. Rest assured that when I have an opinion on a particular subject you will know it is my personal opinion because my name will always accompany that opinion.
Also, every single week as you can see at the bottom of this page is a note that expresses, “The opinions written in these letters are not necessarily the opinion of this newspaper.”
As this newspaper has done in the past and will continue to do, if you do not agree with a writer’s published opinion you have the right to respond through The People Speak portion in the printed version of this newspaper. I will request that you simply follow the rules as noted, again, at the bottom of this page.
