The Appling County Board of Education met on March 28 for a monthly work session meeting. During the meeting, board members approved a recommendation that could help some teachers, that are eligible for retirement, make a decision to go ahead and retire. The board approved a $10,000.00 retirement incentive to eligible teachers to retire as a potential cost-saving measure. The board believes that by replacing teachers that are at higher pay grades, based on years of experience, will save the system hundreds of thousands of dollars. Board members Minnie Barnes, Scottie Ammons, Randy Crawford and Randy Sellers voted in favor of the motion. Board member M.C. Barlow opposed the measure.
