In addition to the eight Professional Cowboy Association events at the Lions Club Rodeo on October 12-13, there will be two children’s events that take place during the intermission.
The Calf Scramble is for cowboys and cowgirls age eight to twelve.
Two frisky calves with ribbons on their tails are released into the arena. When the clown gives the signal, the older kids race after them. The first two children to get back to the clown with a ribbon in hand win cash prizes.
The Stick Horse Race is for cowhands age seven and under. Parents may help their children get lined up and try to prevent false starts. A stick horse must be ridden in order to claim the prize.
Last year the Lions Club provided extra stick horses but there were so many children competing that they soon ran out.
Although the number of Lions Club horses has been doubled this year, your best bet is to bring your own “horsey” from home.
On Friday night only, there will be a raffle for four brand-new bicycles provided by a local hardware store. The only way for a child to enter this raffle is to get a Good Conduct Certificate from his or her teacher. The teacher sets the rules. This raffle is only for children in grades Pre-K through fifth grade, and you must be present to win.
Be sure to put the Certificate in the bowl at the entrance door of the Rodeo.
By the way, the Good Conduct Certificate is not for free admission. For that, you must have a Perfect Attendance Certificate signed by the principal. Present that certificate at the ticket window.
The Lions Club is proud of our schools, our teachers and our students. The Lions Motto is: We Serve.
