Billy Head
Billy Head, 81, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at Appling Healthcare System. Billy was born Aug. 1, 1931 in Appling County to the late Harvey Virgil Head and the late Pearl Branch Head. He was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. Mr. Head taught Sunday school for 20 years at the nursing home and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He was retired as the Clerk of Court after 16 years and was the owner of Head Realty. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Lanier and a brother, W. V. Head.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Head of Baxley; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeannine and Rudolph Thomas of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Cindy Head of Baxley; grandchildren, Jason and Selena Head, Jeremy Head, Jada Nail, April and Perry Hudson, Angie and Chad Hutchinson and Andi and Benjie Higgins; great-grandchildren, Kyler Hutchinson, Dylan Hutchinson, Luke Hutchinson, Trent Head, Bailey Nail, Hunter Griffin, Lexsy Griffin, Thomas Higgins, Cole Higgins, John Thomas Hudson, Brooke Hudson, Ryder Head and Trapper Leggett; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18 from Friendship Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Barry Teutsch officiating. Eulogies were given by Chris Nail and Chad Hutchinson. Interment followed in church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, Jason Head, Jeremy Head, Jason Leggett, Kyler Hutchinson, Dylan Hutchinson, Chad Hutchinson, Perry Hudson and Benjie Higgins.
Musical selections were rendered by Friendship Congregational Christian Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.

I had known Billy Head and family for many years and had bought and sold houses with Head realty.When ever I would address him as Mr Head he would quickly correct me and tell me it was"Billy" not Mr Head.He was a fine man and will be missed greatly by all that knew him.I offer my heart felt condolence to Mrs.Head,Donnie and the rest of the family
