Arrests reported by Baxley Police
According to Baxley Police Chief James Godfrey, on September 1 at approximately 6:04 p.m., Baxley Police officers stopped a vehicle that was involved in an earlier incident. As a result of the stop and a consent search, a small quantity of marijuana was seized from a passenger in the vehicle. While officers were securing the subject, he got free and ran only to be taken into custody after a short foot chase. Arrested was Rochester Jones, Jr., 32, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of obstruction of a police officer, possession of marijuana and escape.
Sept. 2 at approx. 8:50 p.m., answered a call to the Family Dollar Store in reference to a theft. On arrival the clerk told officers that a female had removed some items without paying for them and had left the store on foot. After getting a description of the female and a search of the nearby area, the subject was taken into custody. Arrested in connection with this theft was Amber Wells, 29, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 4 at approx. 8:15 a.m., answered a call to a Speer Homes address in reference to a domestic dispute. On arrival the officers could hear a female screaming and a man tell her you better not open that door. Just then a nearby neighbor alerted the officers that the man had ran out the back of the apartment. The male was detained while the investigation was concluded. As a result of the incident Stuart Gregory Timblin, 34, of Baxley, was arrested on one count of simple assault under the family violence act.
Sept. 4 at approx. 9:33 a.m., met with a complainant at Harvey’s Supermarket in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk that had a subject detained for removing several items without paying for them. Upon investigation officers discovered that the subject had also stolen several items from the Dollar Tree. Arrested in connection with these thefts was Antonio Sims, 17, of Baxley, on charges of two counts theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 5 at approx. 10:24 p.m., met with a resident at a Hatch Parkway South address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed her purse and its contents. The purse is described as a purple and brown striped Victoria Secret purse.
Sept. 5 at approx. 3:00 p.m., met with a city worker on Park Avenue in reference to a theft. On arrival the worker told officers that person(s) unknown had removed several flowers out of the flowerbeds along Park Avenue.
Sept. 7 at approx. 12:18, met with a clerk at Goodys Department Store in reference to a theft. On arrival the clerk told officers that their air conditioner unit wasn’t working and they had called a repairman to fix it. Upon him checking the unit he discovered that person(s) unknown had removed a quantity of copper wiring from the unit.
Sept. 10 at approx. 1:57 p.m., met with a clerk at Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk that had a subject detained for taking an item without paying for it. Arrested in connection with this incident was Antonio Sims, 17, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 10 at approx. 11:00, answered a call to Dwains IGA in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that several females had taken some items without paying for them and had left the store. After reviewing surveillance tapes and a short investigation three people were arrested in connection with the thefts. Arrested was Darlene James, 49, Brittney Walker, 22, and Porsche Fredrick, 18, all of Baxley and all with one count each of theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 12 at approx. 5:40 p.m., met with a resident at a Blueberry Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while he was gone person(s) unknown broke into his home and removed a change jar that contained an undetermined amount of change.
Sept. 13 at approx. 8:28 a.m., met with the store manage of Fayes Consignment Shop in reference to a theft. On arrival the manager told officers that person(s) unknown had removed three Harley Davidson’s leather jackets, with one of them being orange in color, from the storage room of the business.
Sept. 14 at approx. 12:23, met with a complainant at the Farm Bureau in reference to a counterfeit bill. On arrival the complainant told officers that they had received a counterfeit ten-dollar bill in their daily business. The ten-dollar bill had a serial number of IF69303021A.
Sept. 17 at approx. 9:55 a.m., answered a call to a burglary at a Wood Street address. On arrival the resident told officers that he had come home and found his door open. While checking the inside of his home a black male subject came running out the sliding door and fled on foot. A description was given out to other officers and responding units. Officers searched the neighborhood, but found no one fitting the description of the burglar. Reported missing were several jewelry items and some prescription medications.
Sept. 17 at approx. 11:15 a.m., met with a resident a Bay Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into her home and removed some jewelry items from her dresser.
Sept. 18 at approx. 4:18 p.m. answered a call to a suspicious person looking in windows at a Wood Street address. Upon officers getting a description of the subject, detained a subject a short distance from the home fitting the description of the subject. According to witness statements the subject was in the side yard of the home and was looking in a window. Arrested in connection with this incident was James Russell, 45, of Baxley, on charges of one count loitering and prowling.
Sept. 19 at approx. 4:53 p.m., answered a call to a Cadillac Drive address in reference to a domestic dispute. On arrival officers met with a complainant who told them that her and her husband had gotten into an argument that turned physical with him choking her and throwing her to the ground. Arrested in connection with this incident was Mathew Carter, 30, of Baxley, on charges of one count simple battery under the family violence act.
Sept. 19 at approx. 5:35 p.m., met with a complainant at the City Circle Mini Storage in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had cut the lock off his unit and removed a 32-inch Samsung flat screen TV.
Sept. 20 at approx. 6:20 p.m., met with a resident at a Comas Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into his home and removed an Xbox and a camouflaged 22-caliber rifle.
