The Eagle defense held strong on the Cougars first offensive possession and forced the visitors to punt. Punt returner Cameron Carter ran the ball 45 yards all the way down to the Cougar two-yard line. Quarterback Cole Livingston got the nod from Head Coach Keith Wiggins and he busted through the line to complete the drive for another Eagle touchdown. The two-pointer was no good and in a matter of minutes Appling Christian led 14-0.
Near the 3:44 mark in the first period the Eagle defense continued its domination. The squad forced the Cougars to fumble and Eagle defender Bryant Phillips jumped on the ball in the end zone for yet another Eagle touchdown. John McLemore got the call on the two-pointer and he drove the ball over the goal line to make the score 22-0.
The Eagles were not finished scoring in the first period. With just 36 ticks remaining, Andrew Phillips darted eight yards to cap another Eagle scoring drive. Cole Livingston added the two-point conversion making the score 30-0.
In the second period number 52 Bryant Phillips capped a 52-yard drive for the Eagles scoring from three yards out. Cole Livingston again added the two-point conversion. The score was 38-0 and would remain unchanged in the first half of play.
During halftime the 2012 Homecoming Court was presented and this year’s Queen was announced. Appling Christian Academy’s 2012 Homecoming Queen is Miss Casey Davis. (See separate picture and cutline.)
Following the halftime festivities, the Eagles continued to dominate on the field as the “mercy rule” was established for the remainder of the game, meaning the clock never stopped running.
The last score of the evening occurred at the 9:11 mark in the fourth period when Cole Livingston connected with receiver Hunter Barber for a two-yard passing touchdown. Livingston again added the two-point conversion making the final score 46-0.
With 5:16 remaining in the game, the Abundant Life coaches told Coach Wiggins they were finished and forfeited the remainder of the game.
