Herbert Eugene “Gene” O’Quinn, 85, passed away Saturday, September 15, at the Golden Living Center in Jesup. He was a native of Deland, Florida and lived most of his life in Appling County. O’Quinn was a retired farmer, a United States Army Veteran of World War II and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Waycross.
He is survived by his children, Sandra K. and husband Henry Padgett of Baxley, Tammy B. and husband Bob Overstreet of Michigan, David and wife Debbie O’Quinn of Surrency, Teddy and wife Melinda O’Quinn of Surrency, Charles and wife Shelia O’Quinn of Surrency and Ronnie and wife Renee’ O’Quinn of Baxley; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur O’Quinn of Conyers; and his special dog, Rosie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Shurtliff officiating. Eulogy was given by Elder Jerry Lightsey. Interment followed in Antioch Church Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
Active pallbearers were grandsons: Randy O’Quinn, Reese O’Quinn, Chris O’Quinn, Clay Delk, Jason Padgett, Chris Crummy and Troy O’Quinn.
Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends in attendance.
