Annie Loretta King Waldron, 85, of Manor, died Wednesday evening (August 22, 2012) at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in Brantley County to the late Zibe King, Sr. and Alice Roberson King and was the fifth child of nineteen children. It was on her family’s farm where she learned about hard work. At a young age she would cook for the family and help tend to all of her younger siblings. Mrs. Waldron graduated from high school at the age of 16 and began working at the shipyards in Brunswick. She lived in Waycross for many years and managed the Dairy Queen in Waycross for sixteen years and also worked at the Dairy Queen in Homerville for fifteen years. Mrs. Waldron moved to Manor in 1990.
In recent years she was a homemaker and always enjoyed farming throughout her life and always believed in hard work. Mrs. Waldron especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren, her cats and cooking.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Quitman Waldron; one son, Ben Waldron; two sisters, Lorena Griffin and Erma Crews; and seven brothers, Leroy, David, Mack, Parnell, Ervin, Junior and Floyd King.
Survivors include five children, Paulette Strickland and her husband, Joel of Manor, Anna Shear of Blackshear, Edward Waldron and his wife, Nancy of Manor, Alice Hale and her husband, Delmus of Baxley, Roger Waldron and his wife, Nancy of Manor; 15 grandchildren, Lance Strickland of Brunswick, Rebecca Baldree and her husband, Nathan of Manor, Brian Bagley and his wife, Shannon of Alma, Beth Peacock and her husband, Brian of Blackshear, Clint Waldron and his wife, Mindy of Brantley County, Amie Daniels and her husband, Joe of Warner Robins, Darian Hale and his wife, Lynn of Baxley, Stephen Hale and his wife, Heather of Baxley, Chad Waldron and his wife, Jennifer of Tifton, Theresa Gay and her husband, Ronnie of Bickley, Tasha Carter and her husband, Stacy of Baxley, Jessie Waldron and his wife, Joyce of Brantley County, Amanda Beach of Brunswick, Benjamin Waldron and his wife, Rhonda of Bristol, Michelle Merk and her husband, David of Waycross; 30 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Edward King, Zibe King, Jr., Barney King and Melvin King, all of Brantley County; five sisters, Mary Clubb of Brantley County, Marie Petty of Manor, Lois Corbitt of Manor, Willene Proctor of Atlanta and Winnie Johnson of Yulee, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
