Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Aug. 20, Sheriff Richard Foskey of Bacon County called and requested the Appling County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team to assist them in recovering a gun at a crime scene. Four members of the dive team responded and recovered the gun that was in a pond. Sheriff Foskey thanks the volunteers for their time, effort and dedication for serving on the Appling County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

Aug. 16, answered a call to J W Lewis Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated he is missing his Rolex watch valued at $1,000.00. Investigation continues.
8-17, answered a call to Asbury Church Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A mother and a daughter had an altercation. The daughter had left the residence before the officer arrived.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A husband and a wife had an altercation, which led to the arrest of Michael Aaron Peters, 22, of Baxley. Peters was charged with simple battery family violence.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Highway15 in reference to illegal use of credit card. A complainant stated she had let an employee use their business credit card to purchase gas, and found that the card had been used several other times without her approval. Investigation led to the arrest of Christopher E. Copeland, 25, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property second degree, and four counts of unauthorized use of financial transaction card.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Golden Isles of Surrency in reference to an affray. A complainant stated a subject started a fight with him at the gas pumps. The subject left the scene before officer arrived.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Hill Top Road in reference to lost/stolen cell phone. The complainant stated when she went to bed she had her Droid cell phone, next morning she found it was missing.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Wayne Jones Road in reference to threats. A complainant stated she was threatened when she told the father of her child that she was taking him to court for back child support.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to domestic/battery. A complainant stated a subject had beaten her. The complainant was advised to secure a warrant to press charges.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Terrace Drive in reference to a theft. A complainant stated two flat screen TV’s were stolen from his home. Investigation continues.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Creosote Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated his ex-girlfriend took his wallet from him. The wallet had all his identification and $85.00 in currency.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Blackshear Highway in reference to a domestic dispute. The dispute was between a father and a son. The father stated he wants his son and his girlfriend to leave his residence.
Aug. 19, answered a call to Chad Claxton Road in reference to a dispute. The complainant stated his neighbor threw a Bay Tree cone at his eight-year-old son. The neighbor stated he did, but did not hit the child, but did so after several children had cussed and thrown them at him.
Aug. 19, answered a call to Highway 121 in reference to a welfare check. A subject stated she was depressed and was going to run in the road in get hit by a big rig. The subject was transported to Appling ER for evaluation.
Aug. 19, answered a call to Walker lane in reference to a domestic dispute. A father and a stepson had a verbal altercation. Neither party wanted to press charges.
Aug. 19, answered a call to Ernest Obrien Road of Surrency in reference to a theft. The complainant stated several items were stolen from his family farm valued at approximately $3,000.00. Investigation continues.
Aug. 20, answered a call to Blackshear Highway in reference to an attempted suicide. A complainant stated her friend had taken an overdose of prescription drugs. The Appling EMS responded and took subject to Appling ER for treatment.
Aug. 20, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a forgery. The complainant stated he found that several of his personal checks were cashed at a local convenience store. The complainant notified his bank. Investigation led to the arrest of: Steve Lawrence Malick, 28, of Baxley. Malick was charged with six counts of forgery in the third degree. Brandi Jill Carter, 35, of Baxley. Carter was charged with six counts of forgery in the fourth degree, and Sherry Elaine Smith, 38, of Baxley, charged with six counts of forgery in the third degree.
Aug. 21, answered a call to Bud Miles Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. A complainant stated she found her husband unresponsive. The Appling EMS responded and notified the coroner. Daniel Miles, 52, of Baxley, appeared to have died of natural causes.
Aug. 21, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report an identity theft. The complainant stated she received a letter from an Agency stating she owed monies to them for a student loan. The complainant stated she has never applied for any student loan of any kind. Investigation continues.
Aug. 21, answered a call to Brown Street in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated her husband had pushed her down. The husband had left the residence before officer arrived.
Aug. 22, answered a call to Morris Landing in reference to a four-wheeler accident. The victim stated while riding a four-wheeler on a sandbar the front wheel dropped in a hole causing the four-wheeler to roll over onto her legs. The victim went to Appling ER.
Aug. 22, answered a call to Carter Bite Landing Road in reference to a suicide attempt. The complainant stated her son attempted to do harm to himself. The son was taken to Appling ER for a mental and physical evaluation.
Aug. 23, answered a call to Altamaha School Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated taken from his property were two old washing machines, two old dryers, and two old air condition units total valued at $360.00. The complainant stated he thought they might have been stolen for the scrap metal. Investigation led to the arrest of Joseph David Thorhaug, 21, of Baxley. Thorhaug was charged with theft by taking.
Aug. 24, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a forgery. The complainant stated he cashed a check at his local business. The owner of the check brought the check to the complainant and stated it was a forgery. A warrant was secured for the arrest of Wendy Floyd, 41, of Baxley.
Sheriff Deloach asks that if anyone notices any suspicious activity please report it to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office at 367-8120.
