The Pirate football season is scheduled to start Friday, August 24 with a scrimmage against the neighboring Jeff Davis County Yellow Jackets in Hazlehurst starting at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates regular season will start against the Wayne County Yellow Jackets on Friday, August 31, at Jimmy Swain Stadium starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Pirates are coming off a 12-2 season in 2011 and second place in Region 2-AA. The Pirates only losses came to region foe Pierce County in the season finale and to eventual state champion Calhoun in the final four of the State Championship.

New region
Due to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) adding another classification, the Pirates will be moving to Region 1-AAA this season. The Pirates will have some familiar faces in their new region with Brantley County, Pierce County and Tattnall County while facing new teams Beach, Johnson of Savannah, Savannah and Southeast Bulloch. The Pirates will also play non-region opponents Jeff Davis County, Wayne County, Liberty County and Screven County.
Notable games
The Pirates will open up region play on Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m., at Memorial Stadium, against Johnson of Savannah. Other notable games include a rematch with 2011 Region 2-AA champion Pierce County on October 5, the game will be held in Blackshear for the second straight season due to the new region alignment. Recreation night is scheduled for September 28 against Savannah. Homecoming is set for October 12 against Brantley County and Senior Night on October 26 against Tattnall County. The Pirates will have an open week on November 2 with the final regular season game coming on November 9 in Southeast Bulloch.
The Pirates will be looking to contend for the 1-AAA Region Championship while replacing a number of seniors including All-State First Team Wide Receiver/Defensive Back Byron Buxton and All-State Honorable Mention Quarterback Lashune Moore.
