Early in the game Eagle running back Andrew Phillips capped a 69-yard drive scoring on a five-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Cole Livingston connected with tight end Zach Carter for the two-point conversion and the score at the 8:58 mark in the first quarter was 8-0.
Near the end of the first, Livingston put six more points on the scoreboard with a 12-yard scamper. Big fullback Dallas Johnson added the two-point conversion making the score 16-0 with 2:06 remaining.
After another three and out, Skipstone punted and the Eagles had great field position starting near midfield. It did not take Phillips long to find the end zone again as he scored from 47 yards out. Livingston connected with Cameron Carter for another passing two-point conversion. The score at the 11:04 mark in the second quarter of play was 24-0.
Next Skipstone took over at the Appling Christian 37-yard line and after three downs were forced to attempt yet another punt. However, the Eagles went after the punter hard and tackled the punter at the 10-yard line setting up a first and goal situation for the local squad. Livingston punched it in from five out to score for the Eagles once again. Johnson added the two-pointer and the score with 7:28 remaining before the half was 32-0 and would remain unchanged until the half time break.
The Eagle Band did a wonderful job throughout the night keeping fans entertained.
Early in the third the Eagles had a huge passing play that resulted in another touchdown. Quarterback Livingston connected with senior Zach Carter for a 50-yard-plus passing touchdown. The point after attempt (PAT) was no good and the score at the 9:15 mark in the third quarter was 38-0.
The last score of the evening came late in the game. At the 1:30 mark in the fourth quarter, Livingston connected with Carter for a 22-yard passing touchdown. The PAT was no good and the score was 44-0 and would remain unchanged.
It was a great opener for the Eagles and team members played very well on both offense and defense. The team is preparing to travel to Savannah this Friday, August 17, to play Coastal Christian. Appling Christian’s next home game is August 24 against Westside Academy of Warner Robins. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Eagles.
