Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 4, answered a call on Gardner Road in reference to damage to property. Damaged were some business signs.
July 6, answered a call to Noah Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone had gone into her vehicle and stolen $200.00 from the glove box. Investigation continues.
July 6, answered a call to Huddle House in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone had stolen her wallet that contained license, credit card and money.
July 6, answered a call to Forrest Avenue in reference to a child custody incident. The complainant and ex-husband have issues over who is to have custody of the children. Both parties were advised to see their attorney.
July 7, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to an abandon vehicle. A tractor-trailer was found parked in the roadway. The driver of vehicle could not be located. The vehicle was towed due to hazardous conditions.
July 8, answered a call to Finley Vann Road in reference to threats. A complainant stated she had received threatening phone calls and texts from former friends.
July 8, answered a call to Mae Lane in reference to a dispute. The dispute led to the arrest of Santiango Lopez, 27, of Baxley. Lopez was charged with disorderly conduct.
July 8, answered a call to Holt Rentz road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated his son is stealing items from his home.
July 8, answered a call to Deen’s Landing in reference to entering auto/theft. A complainant stated while leaving his vehicle parked he returned to find the windshield busted, and several items taken from the vehicle. Investigation continues.
July 8, answered a call to Deen’s Landing in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated he left his vehicle parked and when he returned he found someone had broken the rear window and hit the doorframe bending the door.
July 8, answered a call to Deen’s Landing in reference to a theft. A complainant stated he left his vehicle parked and when he returned from fishing someone had stolen his 12-gauge Harrison Richardson pump gun valued at $400.00. Investigation continues
July 8, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) had pried open the front door to his residence went inside and had stolen several guns valued at $3,325.00. Investigation continues.
July 8, answered a call to Pickett Road in reference to unruly juveniles. The parents of the juveniles stated their children had been missing for a day. Four juveniles were found at an apartment. The Juvenile Justice Officer was notified and juveniles were released to parents.
July 9, answered a call to David Carter road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated that he had items taken from his residence and he set up a surveillance camera to catch the thief. The complainant brought a picture of the suspected thief to the sheriff’s office. Investigation continues.
July 9, investigated a two-vehicle accident on Blackshear Highway. No injuries were reported.
July 10, a routine traffic stop on Highway 341 resulted in the arrest of DeWayne Joseph Caine, 25, of Hazlehurst. Caine was charged with V.G.C.S.A., a seat belt violation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
July 10, answered a call on Oak Ridge Road in reference to a dog bite. A complainant stated that her daughter got bit by a dog.
July 10, answered a call on Cannon Road in reference to harassing text messages. A complainant stated that she received several messages from an unknown number.
July 10, answered a call on South Main Street in reference to a suspicious person. After talking with the female, she was transported to the ER for evaluation.
July 12, Appling County Deputy Coroner Nick Grimes reported that a seven-month-old male, Jabari A. Clemons deceased was brought to the Appling Healthcare ER by his mother. Death is under investigation.
July 13, answered a call on Orvin Road in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers found that a subject was stealing scrap metal. After further investigation, Stephen Chad Mims, 31, of Hazlehurst, was arrested and charged with theft by taking.
