Rev. John W. “J. W.” Nail, 77, died July 2, 2012 at the Pavilion under the care of Hospice. J. W. was born June 19, 1935 in Appling County, the son of Don C. and Mildred Brown Nail.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Nail; a grandson, Timmy Nail and a sister, Helen Nail Tillman.
Survivors include sons, Mark, Timothy and Chris (Melissa) Nail; grandchildren, Jeremy, John, Markus, Keisha Spell, Kaci Quinn, Staci Smith, Amber Nail and Hannah Nail; eight great-grandchildren and special caretaker, Angela Alexander.
Known by many as “Preacher”, Nail was a Baptist preacher and farmer for more than 20 years, pastoring churches in Appling, Jeff Davis and surrounding counties. In 2011, after suffering serious health problems, he became a resident of the Pavilion. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church.
Services were held at Zoar Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, conducted by the Rev. Joey Andrews and Chris Nail, with music by Donna and the Pavilion Singers.
The family received friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Nail, John Nail, Markus Nail, Gage Nail, Will Griffin and Don Sellers.
The Rev. John “J.W.” Nail was laid to rest beside his son in Nail Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
