The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past few days.
On June 5, at approximately 1:27 p.m., officers met with city employees at a location on SE Park Avenue in reference to a theft. On arrival the employees told officers that an unknown person had removed several plants, from one of the city’s flowerbeds. Missing was a 3-gallon petunia plant and 12 small annuals.

June 6, at approx. 9:38 a.m., met with a resident at a North Hatch Parkway address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that during the night someone removed two car batteries, two aluminum automobile engine heads, one tractor trailer tire and one automobile tire from his residence.
June 6, at approx. 2:37 p.m., met with city employees at NE Park Avenue and Comas Street in reference to a theft. On arrival the employees told officers that persons unknown had removed several plants from one of the city’s flowerbeds. Missing was 12 assorted annual flowers.
June 6, at approx. 4:04 p.m., met with manager of Bellsmit Food Mart in reference to a forgery. On arrival the manager told officers that a subject had been in his store and cashed two money orders, which came back as forged. Investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Chanda Gail Bell, 36, of Baxley, on two counts of forgery in the first degree.
June 7, at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a resident at a Solomon Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone someone broke into her home and rummaged through it, causing damage to several doors. Nothing was reported missing at report time.
June 8, at approx. 5:36 p.m., met with a complainant at the U-Store U-Lock building on Speer Street in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that persons unknown had broken into her storage unit and removed two surround sound head units, and one was a Sony five-disc changer.
June 8, at approx. 10:50 p.m., met with a resident at a N. Holton Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone, an unknown person broke into her home and removed a DVD player, a VCR and damaged a Toshiba laptop computer.
June 9, at approx. 3:44 p.m., answered a call to a Louise Lane address in reference to the resident being unresponsive and not breathing. On arrival officers met with the EMS unit and the daughter of the resident, who related that the resident had passed on prior to their arrival. The coroner was notified, where he stated that the resident, Lindsey Doris Brown, had died of natural causes.
June 9, at approx. 8:00 p.m., met with a resident at a Holmesville Avenue address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that an unknown person had removed a Hi Point 9-mm handgun from a drawer. The magazine for the gun was not taken.
June 10, at approx. 2:30 p.m., met with a complainant at Walmart parking lot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was inside shopping someone removed her wallet from her parked vehicle. The wallet contained miscellaneous papers and other personal papers.
June 11, at approx. 10:23 p.m., met with a complainant at a West Allen Street address in reference to a domestic dispute. On arrival officers observed two subjects and one had a baseball bat and was shaking it at the other. Investigation revealed that the two had been involved in a domestic dispute that turned physical, with one being assaulted with the bat. Arrested in connection with this incident was Thaddeus Nails, 56, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of public intoxication and aggravated assault.
June 14, at approx. 4:12 p.m., made two arrests while investigating another incident. While officers were conducting an investigation into one incident, a passenger jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, only to be taken into custody a short time later. After a consent to search of the vehicle, and the seizure of a small amount of marijuana, the driver, Chuckie LeKeith Vann, 28, of Baxley, was arrested for one count possession of marijuana, along with the arrest of the passenger, Anthony Marshon Williams, 29, of Baxley, for one count obstruction/hindering a law enforcement officer.
June 14, at approx. 6:00 p.m., officers met with a resident at a Thomas Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that an unknown person had broke into her home and removed a Playstation 2 controller, a gold anklet and some change.
June 14, at approx. 9:00 p.m., met with a resident at a Chad Claxton residence in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that someone had entered his utility building and removed two bicycles. The resident told officers that he looked around the area and found the bikes abandoned on the railroad tracks near his home, where he retrieved them and brought them home.
June 14, at approx. 10:30 a.m., met with a complainant at Pineland. The complainant told officers that while she was inside an unknown person removed her billfold from her vehicle. The billfold contained some currency, an assortment of papers and cards, driver’s license and other personal papers.
June 15, at approx. 5:30 p.m., met with a resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that sometime during the night an unknown person removed her sons bicycles. One is beach blue in color with white trim and the other is a BMX bike and is brown and orange in color.
June 16, at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a complainant at Williamson’s Service Station in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that he had left his bike next to the business and rode off with a friend and when he returned he discovered his bike was gone. Reported missing is a Schwinn 10-speed bike, blue and gray in color.
June 18, at approx. 4:10 p.m., assisted agents from the Altamaha Drug Task Force in conducting an undercover operation aimed at the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons under age. There were four arrests made in connection with this incident. Cited for selling alcoholic beverages to person under the age of 21 were Jejas Patel of BellSmit, Rebecca Chancey of Petro, Rajesh Kumar Patel of Express Stop and Miranda Crapps of Joe’s Qwick Stop.
June 19, at approx. 8:35 p.m., met with a complainant at the Pine Lodge Motel in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that a subject staying at the motel had stolen his bus. A lookout was posted for the bus and the subject. A short time later the bus was located and returned to the owner and the subject a Randy Lee Simmons, 33, of Tampa, Florida, was taken into custody, where he was charged with one count each for driving while license suspended and theft by taking motor vehicle.
June 22, at approx. 10:06 p.m., met with a resident at a Cadillac Drive address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that when she had gotten home she heard someone run out the back door. After looking through the house the resident noticed that two Playstation controllers were missing, along with several assorted games.
June 22, at approx. 7:00 p.m., met with a resident at a Thomas Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that an unknown person had entered and rummaged through two of his vehicles, removing an amount of change from one and a CD player from the other.
June 26, at approx. 1:52 a.m., answered a call to Brown Apartments in reference to a fight. On arrival the officers observed a subject bleeding heavily from his lip and the side of his head. Upon questioning the subject a Jimmy Drake, 59, as to what happened, he told officers that he had fallen down on the concrete and that nothing else had happened. Officers called the EMS unit and Drake was transported to Appling Healthcare for his injuries.
June 28, at approx. 9:30 a.m., answered a call to a West Allen Street address in reference to the resident being unresponsive. On arrival the officers met with one of the relatives and the EMS unit. The relative told officers that he had found the resident and called 911. The coroner was notified, where he stated that the resident, Imogene Salem Crayton, had died from natural causes.
