Members of DAR honor Charter Members Daughter Hulda Summerall Baker and Bernice Warnock Brannen

The Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in 1972 with Mrs. Joseph H. Keels as the Regent with twelve new daughters and two daughters with prior membership. There are two living charter members today; Daughter Hulda Summerall Baker and Bernice Warnock Brannen. The Chapter met at the home of Mrs. Baker to honor these members.
The present Regent Joyce Tillman presented each a fortieth year certificate. These Daughters have been dedicated to the principles of the DAR. They have been examples of loving protectors of our country and the liberties of the American People. They too support the constitution; obey the laws of the land and respect the American Flag.
Mrs. Baker was the second regent and has held that office several times as well as all of the other offices of the Chapter. Mrs. Brannen has been Vice-Regent, Librarian and has been chairman of the Good Citizen Committee where she works with a senior that has been selected by the faculty as the Good Citizen. These Daughters are to be congratulated for continuing to carry out the principles of the Chapter for which the DAR was organized forty years ago.
The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Baker’s children and a granddaughter: Marsh Branch, Eleanor Carter, Buzzy Baker, Bill Baker, and Mandy Stone. The following daughters were in attendance: Regent Joyce Tillman, Jane Strickland, Eloise Taylor, Ray-Carol McCall, Susie Dean, Bernice Brannen, Nell Tuten, Martha Dykes, Shirley Shope, and Alice Ebel. One guest attended, Dorothy Pope.
