The Appling County Board of Education met for a called meeting on May 31 and approved a number of personnel recommendations. Among the recommendations, made by Superintendent Scarlett Copeland, the board approved to hire Chris Roppe as the Appling County Middle School Principal (see separate article).
Personnel decisions approved
On a split vote the board approved to hire Denise Rentz as the System Improvement/ Testing/Personnel Coordinator at the Central Office. Board members voting in favor of the recommendation were Randy Sellers, Minnie Barnes and M.C. Barlow. Scottie Ammons opposed and Randy Crawford was not present at the meeting.
Amy Livingston was hired as a special education teacher, Haley White was hired as the secretary at Altamaha Elementary and Stephanie Johnson was hired as a data clerk at Appling County Primary.
Board members accepted the retirement of Regina Warren and opened two bus driver positions, a teacher position at Appling County Elementary School, a paraprofessional position at Appling County Primary School and an assistant principal position at Appling County Primary School.
Tentative FY2012-2013 Budget approved
Board members unanimously approved the FY 2012 – 2013 Tentative Budget. The anticipated fund balance as of July 1, 2012 is projected to be $6,000,000.00. The anticipated revenue for the upcoming budget year is estimated to be $26,533,020.30. The anticipated expenditures for the 2012 – 2013 budget are estimated to be $27,898,213.33. This would leave a projected anticipated fund balance for June 30, 2013 of $4,634,806.97. (The tentative budget is shown on page 7a inside this week’s printed issue.)

An out-of-state field trip request for the Migrant Education Program was unanimously approved.
