The Baxley City Council approved the errors and omissions to the City’s Tax Digest at the regular council meeting held May 22 at 8:30 a.m.
The council discussed considering adopting a resolution, for the International Building Code (IBC), and all amendments. This item was tabled until enforcement procedures are set up. When procedures are set up, then it will be brought before the council to review for a first and second reading.
A public hearing date was set for June 19 at 6:00 p.m. for a petition for a rezoning from a Residential zone (R-15) to a Business (B-2) zone, for property, owned by Roger Branch, located at 746 Fair Street.
City manager’s report
City Manager Jeff Baxley reported he had a very interesting meeting on May 8 with Greg Kelly of Hannah Energy and discussed solar panels at the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The manager stated Hanna Energy is doing a feasibility test to see if solar panels would be feasible at the WWTP. Baxley stated that at this time he is waiting to here from them. He hopes the alternative energy sources such as solar panels could be put in use at the WWTP, because it would help offset some of the energy costs.
Manager Baxley announced a meeting with all city employees would be held Wednesday, May 23, to go over the changes to the group health insurance.
He also announced the terminal building at the airport is now totally complete. He stated it is a very nice facility. At this time they are looking at furnishings for the new building so it can be moved into.
The manager announced that David Williams approached him and told him the flowerbeds downtown needed to be sprayed. All the mulch and everything were taken out of the beds. They have been sprayed for weeds. The manager stated the mulch would be put back in and seasonal summer flowers would be planted.
Mayor Steve Rigdon commended Baxley Police Chief James Godfrey on the Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony that was held May 17 and stated it was a very nice event.
City Attorney Alex Johnson requested that a closed-door session be held following the meeting for ongoing litigation and possible litigation. The council unanimously approved the closed-door session. There was no action taken.
