Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
May 14, officers spoke with personnel from Memorial Medical Center in Savannah who reported a child abuse case that supposedly occurred in Appling County. A child sustained an injury to its femur. The case is being investigated by DFACS and by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
May 18, answered a call on Poor Robin Road in reference to illegal dumping. The complainant stated that a company had placed a small amount of asphalt on his property and the complainant did not want it there. The company was contacted and they will remove the asphalt.
May 18, investigated a one-vehicle accident on Satilla Church Road. No injuries were reported.
May 18, answered a call on Patterson Road in reference to damage to property. An unknown person(s) drove by and threw eggs at the business sign.
May 19, answered a call on James Kent Road in reference to simple battery. The victim and the offender were arguing. The offender then grabbed the victim and ripped her shirt and chased her across the yard.
May 19, answered a call on South Main Street in Surrency in reference to theft by taking. A complainant stated that person(s) unknown went into his utility room and took several tools. Investigation continues.
May 19, answered a call on Penny Morris Road in reference to a theft. Taken were a lawn mower, an air compressor and a floor jack. Investigation continues.
May 19, answered a call to the Appling Christian Academy in reference to a theft. Taken was an undetermined amount of money and a checkbook. Investigation continues.
May 20, took a report by phone call in reference to child custody dispute that occurred on San Marco Drive. The complainant stated that ex-husband was supposed to bring their child back at appointed time and he did not.
May 20, answered a call on Lightsey Boyette Road in Bristol in reference to trespassing. A complainant stated that there was an unwanted person trying to enter the home.
May 20, answered a call on Altamaha School Road in reference to a death investigation. Upon arrival, deputies found Betty Lou Collins, 54, of Baxley, deceased.
May 20, answered a call on Blackshear Highway in reference to a domestic dispute. Dispute was between family members.
May 20, answered a call on Craven Road in reference to damage to property. Damaged was a mailbox.
May 21, answered a call on Jekyll Road if reference to a domestic. The altercation was between a mother and a son-in-law.
May 21, answered a call on Alpine Drive in reference to dog problems. The complainant stated that two pit-bull dogs came over to the residence and attacked her dogs that were in the pen.
May 21, answered a call on LW Hutcheson Road in reference to harassing text messaging. The complainant stated that the offender was texting her fourteen-year-old daughter.
May 22, answered a call on MLK Drive in reference to theft by deception. A complainant stated she and her sister had a vehicle together, and wrecked the vehicle. The sister of complainant took insurance claim check cashed it instead fixing damages on a vehicle.
May 22, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to harassing phone calls. A complainant stated his soon to be ex-wife continues to call and make threats against him.
May 22, answered a call to GW Turner Road in reference to unresponsive subject. Mildred Edith Butler, 84, of Baxley, was found unresponsive. The coroner was notified and stated Butler appeared to have died of natural causes.
May 23, answered a call to Westwood Apartments in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a subject took her cell phone valued at $199.00.
May 23, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to harassment. A
complainant stated she and her husband are in the process of a divorce. The husband continues to call and make threats toward her.
May 24, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to a two-vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.
May 24, answered a call to Lanes Bridge Road in Surrency in reference to child abuse. A complainant stated her sister a fifteen year old stated her father had beat her. The DFACS was notified and further investigation revealed no abuse was found.
May 24, answered a call to Lake Mayers Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated someone had hit his parked vehicle doing damage to the left side of his car.
May 24, answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to vandalism. The Appling County Road Department found stop signs pulled up from seven intersections in the community. The stop signs were found undamaged and all put back in place.
May 25, answered a call to Vernon Williams Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated her brother was at her residence and started a fight with her. The brother left the residence before officers arrived.
